According to the experts we should consume healthy food such as fruit, vegetables, organic food, drink a lot of water, get enough sleep, avoid fast and processed food, stay away from sugary food and eliminate the toxins from our organisms.

However, you should know that cleansing your body is not the only way to stay healthy. Your home environment should be also cleaned.

You already know that removing the dryer sheets and many other toxic products from your house decreases the risks of cancer.

Did you know you should remove the toxic products from your bedroom as well?

People spend one-third of their lives sleeping.

Unfortunately, they neglect their bedrooms more often.

We are going to present you the 12 hazardous things that you should remove from the place where you sleep.

According to the experts, in order to create a clean, cancer-free bedroom you should invest a lot of money and that is why you should start with the easiest solutions.

You may ask why you should do this if it will cost you a lot of money, but the answer is simple – in that way you will improve your health and decrease the risks for cancer.

The way you would start depends on your budget and health problems and it is your personal decision.

You can start either by changing your mattress or the air cleaner for example.

1. Use organic materials as pillows or pillow cases

If you can afford to replace the pillows and the pillow cases with organic materials that would be great.

Most of the people believe that the cotton is the best option rather than the synthetics.

However, the truth is different, the cotton uses 14% of the world’s pesticides and 25% of its insecticides.

2. The artificial fabrics should be removed from your bedroom, closet and bedding

You should be aware of the fact that the synthetic materials such as polyester, acrylic and nylon contain thermoplastics.

If you heat these fabrics they release gas plastic molecules. Moreover, wearing wrinkle free materials increases the inhalation of the formaldehyde and plastic.

All these chemicals are absorbed through your skin as well.

3. Remove your artifical clothes

Almost all synthetics fabrics are made of oil, coal or natural gas. Those liquids go through nozzle holes known as spinnaret.

After they emerge from the spinnaret, they are cooled and solidified and turn into tiny threads.

Weaving together those threads will result in creation of fabric.

That is why you should always choose clothes made of organic and natural materials.

4. Get rid of the faux furniture

You should remove the furniture which is made of artificial materials, such as chairs made of artificial leather.

The synthetic leather PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) is very dangerous plastic.

Remove the seating cushions and pillows that are water resistant or stain, since they were sprayed with toxic chemicals.

5. Displace the Particle Board and the MDF

The furniture made of MDF, particle board or melamine should be removed from your bedroom.

This furniture contains formaldehyde which causes lung problems, asthma, contact dermatitis and can also irritate the mucous membranes.

The particle boards also contain formaldehyde which is a cancer-causing chemical, responsible for the throat cancer.

It may also provoke headaches, nausea, allergies and burning sensations in your throat.

6. Remove the rags and accent

According to the experts, tile floors and wood are the best option for those who suffer from allergy since they are easiest to clean.

If you keep rugs and small accent in your bedroom it may look nicer but the bad thing is that they hold onto dust mites, dirt and many other allergens too.

The polyester is made with antimony which is toxic and cancer-causing. It may affect the heart, liver, lungs and the skin.

7. Use only No-VOC Paint

If you have to paint your room make sure you use only No-VOC paint, since the VOC paint contains carbon compounds which vaporize easily.

When they are released in the air they react with other elements and produce ozone.

Besides air pollution, ozone also causes headache, breathing problems, watery eyes, burning and nausea.

8. Shoe free zone

Keep your outdoor shoes outside the house.

In this way you prevent tracking in dirt, pollen and various chemicals into the house.

It is also advisable to place your outdoor shoes on a boot or shoe tray, which you can keep next to the door.

Before you enter your house put the shoes on the tray and minimize tracking the dirt and dust into your house.

9. Do not keep electrical devices in your bedroom

The electrical and electronic devices such as the TV or the computer may disrupt your sleep patterns and cause sleep problems.

Make sure you remove them into another room.

10. Either cover or replace your mattress

To buy another mattress is really expensive.

However, the truth is that the mattresses which are not made of organic materials are sprayed with stain resistant chemicals and flame retardant.

Also, many of them are made of foam which may release gases for years.

11. Use an Air Cleaner

If you can buy an air cleaner, especially a portable one which you can easily remove and use in all rooms, would be wonderful.

If you decide to buy it, make sure it has HEPA filtration which does not produce the dangerous ozone.

12. Get rid of the Chemically treated shades and drapes

The shades and the drapes hold onto pollen, dust and allergens. It is recommendable to replace those shades and drapes with organic ones.

Since they are very expensive you can exchange them with a friend who would sew drapes or curtains for you.
