Most people have the habit to lay down after consuming food and watch TV. But, unfortunately, this is bad habit like many more which can get in the way of achieving your goals. Here are five things that you shouldn’t do after having lunch or dinner:


*Smoke*




Even though we are aware that the smoking is harmful for our health, we still smoke and we are doing that after having a meal. If you want to smoke, at least wait few hours after consuming food and then smoke because the nicotine in the cigarette binds to the excess oxygen, allowing our body to absorb more carcinogens. Many studies have found that smoking after a meal is equal to 10 cigarettes at once. It also increases the risk of lung and bowel cancer.

*Consume fruit*

The best time to consume fruit is before meal as the fruit requires different enzymes to digest and its simple sugars need more time to be absorbed completely. When the stomach is empty, a person gets benefits from all the simple sugars, fiber and nutrients. Consuming fruit after meal will cause indigestion, heartburn, burping and other discomforts.



*Sleep*

Those who go to sleep after a meal will experience odd sleeping patterns, discomfort and bloating because the stomach is working during the night. The University of Ioannina Medical School’s study found that those who waited longer after eating had less chances of having a stroke.  That means that we shouldn’t consume food at least few hours before going to sleep.



*Shower*

You shouldn’t shower after having a meal because the body increases the blood flow to reach the legs, hands and body and then it can decrease the blood flow amount in the stomach. That is resulting in weakened and inefficient digestive system and pain in the stomach.

*Consume tea*


Avoid consuming tea after having meal because the tea interferes with the iron absorption. The body is prevented from getting the benefits from the fruit as the tea’ tannic acid binds with iron and protein in the food. Lack of iron in the body can lead to anemia thus causing dizziness, weakness, extreme fatigue, pale skin, poor appetite, brittle nails, cold feet and hands and chest pain.
